FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should I wait to mow the lawn?

For best results, wait 24 hours and leave the clippings for the next two mowings. However, Purdue studies show that the turf can be mowed after weed control has dried (normally a couple of hours) without dramatically changing results.

What height should I mow at?

Always mow at 3+ inches or the highest mower setting.

Do I need to water my lawn after an application?

Yes, if possible. Water is what activates the products we apply. If we do not get any rain, you should water the lawn after 24 hours.

How long should I water my lawn?

Time will vary based upon water pressure and how it is delivered. The goal is to provide 1-1.5 inches of water per week in one watering. With a grass plant being 85% to 90% water, proper mowing and watering are vital components to optimize our fertilization program.

What if it rains after an application?

Water of any kind is beneficial. This will start to activate fertilization treatment. As long as weed control has dried on the plant, it should be fine. If there is any problems after 2 weeks, please call the office for a service call.

I have mushrooms- what do I do?

Mushrooms grow naturally when there are large amounts of water present in your lawn. They grow off dead matter such as decaying trees or thatch in the lawn.  They are not damaging to the lifecycle of the grass, and should not be of concern. The best method of removing them from your lawn is to kick them over once they are spotted. There is no recommended chemical treatment for this type of fungus.

I have a mole tearing up my lawn- what do I do?

Mole traps and/or talprid worms to control mole populations are most effective. 70% of a mole’s diet is earthworms, so baits that mimic their appearance are most effective. Grub controls are not recommended as a solution. They can be used to control secondary food sources.

What can be done for moss?

Moss is usually shade related, but can occasionally indicate soil acidity.  Soil acidity can only be determined by a soil test.  Lime applications to alter soil acidity do not necessarily control moss.  Moss burning products work short term, but can be expensive.  For a less expensive solution, you can apply multiple applications of dawn dish soap combined with water to burn off moss.
